Richard is a 2011 cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, where he served as senior editor of the Alabama Law Review, and authored a published note.  Richard received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in History from North Greenville University in 2005.  He also received a Master of Arts in History from the College of Charleston in 2007.

Richard joined the firm in 2012.  Richard is licensed in South Carolina and Georgia, and is a member of the bar association of both states.  Prior to joining the firm, Richard worked for a well respected defense firm in Southwest Georgia representing trucking, construction, and insurance companies.   

Richard is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, and is married to Stephanie Shivers McLawhorn.  Richard and Stephanie have three children.  They are active members of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.
